Veja
“Refusing to choose between design and social responsibility.”
Veja is a shoe brand that take sustainability and ethical production seriously. Since 2005, founders Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion have been prioritizing economic justice over advertising and organically farmed materials over environmentally harmful production. The end result is not only an effortlessly cool shoe, it is proof that you do not have to sacrifice quality or style for sustainability.
Why we love Veja
upcycled materials
Veja uses innovated materials such as B-mesh, Hexamesh, J-mesh made from recycled/upcycled plastic water bottles and polyester and cotton waste from textile manufacturing.
No Ads
It costs 5 to 7 times more to make Veja shoes but are sold at the same prices as competing brands because they spend $0 on advertising and marketing. Their model is to invest that money into the front end of the process: the farmers and raw material suppliers, the factory workers and the environment.
vegan
Veja has a fully vegan line of sneakers that use more eco-friendly materials such as Cotton Worked as Leather. This material is 100% organic cotton canvas, coated with P.U., corn starch and ricinus oil.
transparency
From supply chain and production to safety testing and carbon footprint, Veja clearly outlines all their policies here.
Meaningful partnerships
Veja partners with Ateliers Sans Frontières, a job reintegration workshop for all their logistic needs. Every year, this non-profit gives vulnerable individuals work and helps them regain social stability.
fair trade cotton
Veja has been purchasing GOTS certified organic cotton directly from farmers for over 15 years with mutually agreed upon prices in advance (typically 2X the market rate) so that the farmers are always guaranteed the best rate for their crops regardless of market fluctuations.
